Our School | Vision, Mission, Values
Our vision
Our vision is to nurture and graduate the next generation of global citizens who are mindful leaders of the future – kakehashi, connecting cultures, communities and countries.
Two curriculums, one school, leading to the future.
Our mission
Located in a peaceful natural environment, the Sydney Japanese International School (SJIS) is dedicated to nurturing the individual learning needs of students. We provide an enriched learning environment that empowers young people to succeed – one school with two curriculums.
Authorised by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and registered as an independent school by the New South Wales Education Standards Authority, SJIS provides a unique education that enhances the regular Japanese and Australian curriculums.
We nurture within our students exceptional bilingual abilities and cross-cultural understanding. We provide opportunities to learn about other cultures so our students learn to appreciate diversity and individuality, and gain broad perspectives of the world. Our students emerge from primary school as bilingual scholars, ready to embrace learning at high school and to become kakehashi* (bridges) – connecting communities and cultures globally.
The spirit of kakehashi connects:
- The present to the future
- Our students to the world
- Cultures without borders
Our aim
We aim to equip our students with the skills to flourish as kakehashi. We achieve this by focusing on three core development areas:
Students gain language skills and cultural insights through a curriculum that provides immersive opportunities, and by skilfully navigating cross-cultural environments with resilience and confidence.
Students become effective, cross-cultural communicators who build relationships based on trust.
Students embrace cultures and values with an open mind, and confidently take initiative to make progress.
Our Values
Our values reflect a school community of which everyone – students, teachers, and families – is proud. These values help build our common culture and guide our decision making and behaviour, and are the foundation behind our school spirit.
