Learning | International Division Primary (NSW Curriculum)
Why choose SJIS International Division (NSW Curriculum)?
Choosing the International Division (NSW Curriculum) at SJIS offers a multitude of benefits that make it a compelling choice for both local families and students from diverse backgrounds.
One significant advantage is the curriculum, which aligns with the NESA standards followed in local primary schools. This ensures that students receive a comprehensive education that meets international standards while preparing them for further studies in high school. Students learn in a nuturing environment with smaller class sizes and plenty of support which builds their self-confidence.
Additionally, the International Division provides an invaluable opportunity for daily Japanese language lessons, allowing students to develop fluency and proficiency in a widely spoken language.
This immersion in Japanese culture enhances their understanding and appreciation of diverse perspectives, providing a unique and enriching educational experience.
By embracing Australian and Japanese cultures, students in the International Division at SJIS truly get to experience the best of both worlds that fosters a global mindset and broadens their horizons.

Japanese Language Program
What sets our school apart from others is the significant exposure to Japanese language and culture. Japanese language classes are held daily for 50 minutes. Students learn the written and oral basics of the language, as well as cultural features that deepen their understanding. Students are placed in groups for Japanese language, ranging from beginners to advanced levels. Native Japanese speakers are accommodated in our background speakers’ classes, while newcomers may receive some intensive assistance in the beginners class. Read more about our Japanese Language Program.
Mixed lessons with the Japanese Division
All students of both divisions undertake mixed lessons in the areas of art, music, PE and coding. For further details, please refer to the Mixed Lesson section of our website.
Learning support
Students who require additional literacy support are identified through observation, internal and external assessment, and the professional judgement of teachers. These students have access to reading intervention by a support teacher using MultiLit programs. Read more about our Learning support program.
