Application Process | International Division - Primary (NSW Curriculum)
Thank you for your interest in enrolling in the International Division at Sydney Japanese International School. Catering to students from Kindergarten to Year 6, the International Division offers a unique educational experience blending the New South Wales curriculum in English with daily Japanese lessons. Additionally, students benefit from mixed lessons with the Japanese Division, covering subjects like music, visual art, physical education, and coding.
Our inclusive community embraces students from diverse backgrounds, both local and international, fostering a supportive environment where every student can thrive. To ensure eligibility for enrolment in the International Division, prospective students and their families must meet certain legal conditions, including holding the appropriate visas to legally reside, work, or study in Australia.

Enrolment process
To begin the enrolment process for a place in the International Division, please:
- Read and agree to the Enrolment Terms and Conditions
- Complete the Online Application Form (Please select English or Japanese from the drop-down menu in the top right corner of the application page)
- Pay the application fee to be added to the waiting list
- Attend an assessment* – we will send you an invitation
- If successful, you will receive enrolment forms and a Conditions of Entry document. Please pay all the necessary fees at this time.
* All students commencing their SJIS education from Year 1 onwards in the International Division (NSW Curriculum) will be invited to meet with the Head of Internatioanl Division for an informal assessment. Parents will have the opportunity to ask questions during this time.
Accepted visas
SJIS does not accept enrolments from students on international student visas. Parents must have either Australian citizenship or Australian permanent residency, or hold an Australian business, researcher or student visa. Tourist visas are not eligible for enrolment at SJIS.
Required documentation
At the time of assessment, please provide a copy of your child’s latest school report (grades) from their previous school and any other relevant reports from specialists and/or therapists.
Experience Day
SJIS offers the opportunity to prospective students to experience a day in the life of a SJIS student through the School’s ‘Experience Day’ program. This is available for any student interested in entering the School from Year 1. The cost is $150 per day. Once enrolment is confirmed, this fee will be credited towards your tuition.
